About Us

Our mission is to make greener choices easier!

We're all about giving our customers the best possible experience and that includes being able to savour the delights of endorphine-enducing coffee and accompanying tasty, tempting treats without suffering pangs of guilt.

Indulgence with a conscience - that's our motto!

A short history of nearly eveything about The Green Bean

Ok, so this is the potted version:

Sometime pre-1980 - Glyn Riley, TGB owner and barista extraordinaire makes a grand entry into the world

May 2004 - Glyn and his wife, Cathy, move from South Africa to England full of hopes and dreams for the future

March 2005 - Glyn starts CuppaCoffee, a mobile espresso bar. Frequenting agricultural shows, outdoor events and Wells Market, he sells . Working two days a week, he saves hard earned pennies until, one day, he decides he has enough to realise his dream

Sept 2007 - Giving way to the spirti of adventure, the couple pack in their lives for 3 months and embark on the journey of a lifetime. They ride two BMW F650GS motorbikes from their home in Bristol across Europe and through Africa, arriving in  Cape Town just in time to celebrate New Year's eve with old friends and family.

6 Dec 2008 - After a long search for the right premises, hours spent pouring over stocklists of ethical suppliers, and plenty of elbow grease put into painting the walls with eco-paint and laying sustainable bamboo floorboards, The Green Bean is born.
